The performance of an active optical imaging radar in the turbulent atmosphere
نویسنده
چکیده
This research investigates the performance of an active optical imaging radar system which is viewino a diffusely reflecting rough surface through the turbulent atmosphere. The mathematical formulation of this problem is not amenable to standard statistical techniques so that we examine a collection of related simplifications in order to evaluate the performance of this system. The results thus obtained indicate that appropriate utilization of the active aspect of the radar system can significantly improve the attainable performance. Returnina to the original formulation, we discuss several suboptimal imaging techniques which are adapted from techniques employed in simpler contexts and which partially circumvent image degradations due to turbulence. Finally, we describe certain practical applications for this system. THESIS SUPERVISOR: E. V. Hoversten TITLE: Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering

Modeling of RF Waves in Free Space Optical Communication System Under Gamma-Gamma Turbulent Channel Effect
In this paper, an enhancement design of communication system using optical radio frequency (RF) waves in free space optical communication (FSO) system is presented. To our knowledge, it is the first time that the effect of Gamma-Gamma turbulent channel model on the performance of the proposed system is analyzed and simulated. To obtain an optical communication system with good performance and h...
متن کاملPropagation of Partially Coherent Beam in Turbulent Atmosphere: A Review
Partially coherent beam is preferred in many applications, such as free-space optical communications, remote sensing, active laser radar systems, etc., due to its resistance to the deleterious effects of atmospheric turbulence. In this paper, after presenting a historical overview on propagation of optical beams in turbulent atmosphere, we describe the basic theory for treating the propagation ...
متن کاملActive laser radar systems with stochastic electromagnetic beams in turbulent atmosphere.
Propagation of stochastic electromagnetic beams through paraxial ABCD optical systems operating through turbulent atmosphere is investigated with the help of the ABCD matrices and the generalized Huygens-Fresnel integral. In particular, the analytic formula is derived for the cross-spectral density matrix of an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model (EGSM) beam. We applied our analysis for the A...
متن کاملMicrowave Imaging Using SAR
Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (Pol.-SAR) allows us to implement the recognition and classification of radar targets. This article investigates the arrangement of scatterers by SAR data and proposes a new Look-up Table of Region (LTR). This look-up table is based on the combination of (entropy H/Anisotropy A) and (Anisotropy A/scattering mechanism α), which has not been reported up now. ...
